Hollywood “Farmer” James Cromwell and Real-Life Farmer Craig Watts Ask Poultry Workers to Blow Whistle in New PSA.

Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell (Babe, Succession) has teamed up with former Perdue poultry grower Craig Watts in a powerful new video urging chicken-industry workers to speak out when they witness animal abuse or neglect.

The U.S. poultry industry raises and slaughters roughly nine billion chickens each year. Yet abuses routinely go unreported, in part because workers fear retaliation. Legal Impact for Chickens hopes that empowering insiders to speak out will shine a light on cruelty and help push companies to do the right thing.

“Poultry workers,” James Cromwell exhorts, “If you’ve ever experienced chickens being mistreated or abused where you work, let us hear from you.”

Then Craig Watts chimes in: “The system is very exploitive to animals, it’s very exploitive to farmers, very exploitive to the workers in the factories. I would encourage others who feel this way to speak out because we don’t need a system that’s inherently cruel and we need to hold these big corporations accountable.”

Legal Impact for Chickens encourages media outlets and concerned citizens to share the campaign’s message in order to reach as many current and former poultry workers as possible. Poultry workers with information about animal mistreatment are urged to visit legalimpactforchickens.org/workers to submit their stories. By coming forward, insiders can help protect animals and colleagues alike, and “experience the power of empathy” that James Cromwell invokes in the PSA.
